As summer nears, many Britons will be planning a beach escape. But if you’ve had your fill of Spain or you’re looking for somewhere cheaper than France, there’s an affordable alternative that’s been described as Europe’s Maldives.
Albania is one of Europe’s most exciting holiday destinations and for cash-strapped Britons- it’s also a fantastic bargain.
According to the travel experts at Bounce, searches for holidays to Albania have soared by over 100 percent in the last year.
While Tirana is one of Europe’s best-value city breaks, it’s the country’s beaches that have attracted the most attention.
So when’s the cheapest time to fly to Albania?

While the country is set to open a new airport in Vlore, currently British tourists can only fly to Tirana in Albania.
According to KAYAK, November is the cheapest time to fly to Albania but Britons will also find good prices and warm weather in June and September. July and August are the most expensive months to travel to Albania.
Meanwhile, Skyscanner recommends flying in May for the cheapest flight to Albania. Temperatures can reach above 25 degrees in May.
Although Albania only has one international airport, Britons can easily reach the country’s southern beach resorts from Corfu Airport so it’s worth browsing for flights to both airports before booking.
KAYAK recommends flying on a Tuesday for the lowest prices while flights on a Sunday are the most expensive.
Where are the best beaches?
Ksamil, in Albania’s south, is known as ‘Europe’s Maldives’ and its crystal clear water and sandy beaches make it a popular destination. Nearby Saranda is a beach resort town with a city beach and plenty of bars and restaurants.
Durres is under an hour’s half drive from Tirana, making it a great choice for Britons short on time. The beaches are a little crowded so nearby Vlore is a better option for tourists with more time.
Between Vlore and Saranda, tourists will find Himare which is home to some of the country’s prettiest beaches including Dhermi Beach and Gjpye Beach.
Albania’s main tourist beaches can be pretty noisy and crowded during peak season, so if that’s not your scene, consider renting a car to reach more secluded spots.

July and August are the hottest months of the year in Albania and temperatures regularly reach 30 degrees. June and September are also generally warm while the temperature is pleasant in May.
Tourists will need to have at least three months left on their passport to travel to Albania and can stay for a maximum of 90 days in every six months.
