“Silicon Valley” star Kumail Nanjiani just revealed why tech billionaire Elon Musk wasn’t a fan of the hit HBO show.
During an appearance on the Aug. 10 episode of Mike Birbiglia’s “Working It Out” podcast, the Marvel actor recalled how the series received a lousy review from the Tesla titan when Nanjiani met him.
“He didn’t like the show,” the actor dished.
Apparently, Musk wasn’t amused by the series’ 2014 opener, which featured Kid Rock performing at a posh tech party while “seven nerdy dudes” stood by with no one “paying attention.”

“It’s such a funny opening,” Nanjiani told Birbiglia.
Apparently, the scene didn’t seem to match Musk’s experiences.
As the actor remembered, “Elon was upset. He was like, ‘Well, the parties I go to are much cooler than these parties.’”
That seemed like a given to Nanjiani, who recalled thinking, “Yeah, man. You’re one of the richest people in the world. We’re, like, losers on the show. Of course your parties are better than my parties. What are you talking about?”

The soirees Musk is rumored to have attended certainly sound wilder than the events depicted early on in “Silicon Valley,” according to a 2024 report by The Wall Street Journal.
The Journal’s deep dive into the mogul’s alleged drug use cited several sources who claimed they had direct knowledge of Musk recreationally experimenting with LSD, cocaine, ecstasy and psychedelic mushrooms, often at exclusive parties.
Musk has thoroughly denied these reports, but has been open about using ketamine for therapeutic purposes under the guidance of doctors.
